Construction site preparation is often a brief process that can be done in hours yet it is the most important step that determines the safety of the building to be erected. A project manager is often put in charge to ensure that everything is done in the right manner and in the precise time set for them. This process however can only be undertaken once the consent is received for the relevant legal authorities.

The project manager is required to stake out the boundaries as exact as per the architectural drawings. A placard should be erected on the most visible part within the surrounding fence and should have information pertaining to the company name and contacts details. This information is important for reports of any incidents happening in the absence of the managers.

The workers must constantly be reminded each and every time to ensure they are all in appropriate protective gear at the workplace. This is best done by warnings that should be spread in all the rooms and workstations. The cautionary statements help avoid unwanted and disastrous accidents arising in the site due to lack of observing the set rules.

A professional engineer should be consulted for the various soil tests that must be performed on the selected location. It is the most important test that is used to determine future problems and possible ways of evading them. The location has to be searched for possible old excavations, drainage channels and cables. Foreign materials should be removed and excavations have to be filled.

Water and electricity must be brought closer to the site. Once located, the project managers have to ensure that these amenities are allocated to the building areas as soon as possible and in accordance with the funds available to the project. Washrooms, changing areas and offices should be among the first structures to stand erected on the location.

Since this work relies heavily on communication, it is quite common to include a phone line to cater for the communication services. The managers expect faxes on how to schedule different tasks and they are also expected to communicate back on the progress of the whole project to respective clients. Plumbers, electrical technicians and other personnel also depend on such communication means to schedule their tasks.

A spacious and safe storage area should be availed for storage of the common working equipment and materials. Research shows that there is an increase in theft of building plans that is often the core concern to project managers. Tight security measures have to be incorporated in the storage areas for the safe keeping of all the important tools and building requirements.

Construction site preparation should be as swift and efficient as possible since investors are always keen on time as a resource. The managers are often provided with the rules and regulations that must be observed when going around their daily routines. Professionals must adhere to the ethics in their respective areas of expertise.
